“The Ash Grove” is a traditional Welsh folk song. The melody has been set to a number of various lyrics, including this popular English version:
The ash grove, how graceful, how plainly ’tis speaking
The harp through its playing has language for me
Whenever the light through its branches is breaking,
A host of kind faces is gazing on me.
The friends of my childhood again are before me;
Each step wakes a memory as freely I roam.
With (soft) whispers laden the leaves rustle o’er me;
The ash grove, the ash grove alone again is my home.
Each of the two harp arrangements includes 2 versions: easy and mid-intermediate, so you can work your way through them as you progress on the harp.
There are 2 easy lever or pedal changes, which makes this a perfect piece if you want to start using levers or pedals on your harp.
Music can also be altered to skip the changes – the score includes advice on how to do this.
